Board Meeting in Texas

Activist:

As part of my job, I spend lots of time with Moishe House residents. Our innovative model trains, supports and sponsors Jewish young adults as they create vibrant home-based communities for their peers. We envision Moishe House as the global leader of pluralistic Jewish life for adults in their 20's. We facilitate a wide range of experiences, so that they have the leadership skills, knowledge and community to enrich their Jewish journeys.

This month I travelled to the other side of the Ocean, to Austin, Texas for the US National Residents Retreat and our Board Meeting. Moishe House has over 150 residents worldwide, who engage more than 50.000 Jewish young adults throughout the year. The retreat, from Friday to Sunday, presented a perfect opportunity to meet the residents and learn from them. In the US, Moishe House residents have been enjoying retreats for the past few years, while in Europe and the Former Soviet Union we look forward to having our first ever retreat in the second half of 2012.

As part of our effort to provide a better service to our international residents and keep engaging with our local partners, we recently opened an office in London and registered as a charity (with great support from the JHub – Pears Foundation). Today we have 46 Houses covering 5 continents, from Vancouver to Buenos Aires, Kishinev to Moscow, and Budapest to Beijing. With the support of federations, foundations and trusts we look forward to opening many more houses! I am now on my way to Kiev, Ukraine to meet the residents, spend time with them and witness their magnificent work in their community. I leave you for now until my next post. I look forward to blogging about my exciting work with Moishe House, a growing community of committed Jewish young adults. Alejandro
